My 1.6 tdi taxi got 200k and still strong but I start to use a DTUK tuning box to get more power and extra MPG. 2.0 engine more economical then 1.6 for sure. Clutch on 140k and EGR on 100k.

This is a redesigned 1.9-liter TDI engine. The 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine was the first Volkswagen diesel engine having four valves per cylinder, and it was used in the 2004 Golf, Passat, and other vehicles. Gray cast iron is used to make the cylinder block. The engine’s displacement was boosted by expanding the bore to 81.0 mm.

After driving his 4Runner with the TDI motor for a while, the car enthusiast came back to report that he experienced very few issues with the car. He was happy with the gas mileage, which was 31 MPG during the summer months. The power, he said, was “much better than a 22RE or a 3.0 even.” It produced about 200 lb-ft of torque.

Worse mileage than a Golf/Jetta, because it's a bigger car with a bigger engine. Very nice cars once you dump $10k into them. (OK, that estimate might be a bit high. But, it's not THAT high.) Engine code is BHW. The 2005.5-2006 Jetta TDIs are bigger cars, with better suspension. Worse mileage, more size, better handling. You win some, you lose

I think a tdi would be better suited as they sit at a lower rpm so it feels a little more comfortable over longer journeys.
Best bet would be to go with mk4 or Mk5 TDI’s (I’m slightly biased) It'd help if you specified 05/06 or 09/10 MK5 due to the different engines. I have a 2009 Jetta and 2011 Audi Q7 and the common rail engines have proven to be pretty great. I have 4. Two 2012 tdi Jetta wagons. A 2012 tdi Passat and an 09 tdi wagon.
The clean diesel features particulate filters and other devices for removing diesel soot and order from the exhaust, as well as a system for reducing emissions. The 2.0-liter TDI produces 140 horsepower and whopping 236 pounds-feet of torque. While the 1.9-liter engine can best be described as peppy, the 2.0-liter TDI is down right quick. 7OdC.
