Looks as if I have these two factions to chose from, at least for now. I am sure both have benefits, especially armor, so wondering if it makes much difference which one I decide to join. My character is only level 9, but for now is mostly Melee/STR based. I know from some posts here that there may be an opportunity to join a third faction late in the game, so are these really my only options now?

I know about: Herslik = Alchemy (750xp for getting the job) He can teach you alchemy for 10LP + 0G. You can sell him potions for high price. Gothic is a DirectX7 game and requires DirectX9 kernel driver but Intel doesn't provide any DX9 driver starting from 11th gen due to lack of fixed function pipeline in hardware. Other DX7-DX9 titles might work because Windows 10/11 use D3D9On12 mapping layer when there aren't any DX9 driver available but it doesn't work on Gothic.
